What is the Purpose of Life? - Dr. Laurence B. Brown

This week on TheDeenshow we'll be talking to Dr Brown and finding out what the purpose of life is and he'll be also refuting  Atheism and darwinism.

Who is Dr. Brown? A product of Christian-American ancestry dating back to the year 1677, up until his conversion to Islam in April of 1994, Dr. Brown easily could have passed as an example of a man who lived the stereotypical American dream. A graduate from two Ivy League universities with subspecialty training in ophthalmology, Dr. Brown served as a respected ophthalmologist in the U.S. Air Force for a period of eight years.

Midway through his Air Force career, Dr. Brown's 'ideal American family' included a wife, two children, and the requisite two cars and a dog. His country home was crowded with the full array of comforts and toys which clutter the lives of those preoccupied with materialism. Yet Dr. Brown ended up sacrificing virtually everything he had worked for when he faced a religious conviction that overturned his lifelong priorities. Following a personal miracle through which the life of his daughter was saved, Dr. Brown redirected his focus to religious study in an attempt to make good on a promise made to God. In the process, Dr. Brown followed the chain of revelation through the Abrahamic religions from Judaism to Christianity and, in the end, to Islam. It is the result of that study that he relates in his series of thought-provoking books. In the same manner that Dr. Brown's choice of religion confronted his slice of the American dream, so too do his religious conclusions challenge the Western religious establishment.

Laurence Brown received his B.A. from Cornell University, his MD from Brown University Medical School, and his ophthalmology residency training at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. His immediate family presently consists of his wife, three daughters, and an ever changing assortment of parrots and hamsters.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيم: Dengan nama Allah Yang Maha Pemurah lagi Maha Penyayang.

اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ [96.1] Bacalah dengan (menyebut) nama Tuhanmu Yang menciptakan,

خَلَقَ الإنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ [96.2] Dia telah menciptakan manusia dari segumpal darah.

اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الأكْرَمُ [96.3] Bacalah, dan Tuhanmulah Yang Maha Pemurah,

الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ [96.4] Yang mengajar (manusia) dengan perantaraan kalam.

عَلَّمَ الإنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ [96.5] Dia mengajarkan kepada manusia apa yang tidak diketahuinya.

كَلا إِنَّ الإنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَى [96.6] Ketahuilah! Sesungguhnya manusia benar-benar melampaui batas,

أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَى [96.7] karena dia melihat dirinya serba cukup.

إِنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَى [96.8] Sesungguhnya hanya kepada Tuhanmulah kembali (mu).

أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَى [96.9] Bagaimana pendapatmu tentang orang yang melarang,

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّى [96.10] seorang hamba ketika dia mengerjakan salat,

أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى [96.11] bagaimana pendapatmu jika orang yang melarang itu berada di atas kebenaran,

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَى [96.12] atau dia menyuruh bertakwa (kepada Allah)?

أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى [96.13] Bagaimana pendapatmu jika orang yang melarang itu mendustakan dan berpaling?

أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَى [96.14] Tidakkah dia mengetahui bahwa sesungguhnya Allah melihat segala perbuatannya?

كَلا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ [96.15] Ketahuilah, sungguh jika dia tidak berhenti (berbuat demikian) niscaya Kami tarik ubun-ubunnya,

نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ [96.16] (iaitu) ubun-ubun orang yang mendustakan lagi durhaka.

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ [96.17] Maka biarlah dia memanggil golongannya (untuk menolongnya),

سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ [96.18] kelak Kami akan memanggil malaikat Zabaniyah,

كَلا لا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ [96.19] sekali-kali jangan, janganlah kamu patuh kepadanya; dan sujudlah dan dekatkanlah (dirimu kepada Tuhan)
